The Harten family from Mil Lel in South Australia decided they
wanted to upgrade their parlour due to operational problems with
some of their equipment. A decision was made to remove the
defective equipment and they decided to retro fit Dairymaster
Swiftflo Bailing and stand alone feeders on their parlour. Barry,
Kay & Peter Harten are milking 200 Holstein cattle through
their 16 unit parlour.
Barry commented "we are milking quicker now due to cows standing
quieter than with the previous equipment. We are milking around 140
cows per hour with a daily herd average of 33 litres." The main
reason for this quicker milking is due to the Dairymaster Swiftflo
Bailing which he remarks "is built stronger that a lot of other
systems out there and the fact that it is a bolt together system
meant it was easier to install. Since we have installed the
Dairymaster Swiftflo bailing, cows line up better and stand quieter
and we are getting more milk per hour due to better row times from
better cow behaviour."
With the Dairymaster feeders what impressed the Harten's most is
that "We are able to feed with the push of a button and can add
extra feed to particular stalls as we see fit"
We also like the fact that the "the feed hoppers are fully
covered". Due to its completely enclosed design this minimizes dust
and prevents rodents from entering easily.
As the Harten's are so impressed with the Dairymaster Swiftflo
Bailing and feeders they are planning to install Auto ID,
AutoDrafting and Sound messaging in the near future.
