    Investing for the future

Pat O'Sullivan and his wife Geraldine decided to install a 8 unit Swiftflo Swingover Milking system on their farm in Flemmingstown in Dingle, County Kerry. One of the main reasons Pat had for buying a new parlour is that he wanted to make life easier and milking time quicker as Pat is also working on a full time basis.

The main reason for investing in a new parlour was to speed up the milking process, in his old plant it took up to 1 hour to milk his 16 cows whereas now it takes approx 30 minutes to milk 24 cows. Pat's herd are made up of Friesian cows and he farms on approx 90 acres of land. The dairy business was established a few generations ago and Pat with the help of his three sons manage the farm. The herd are milked twice a day at 6.00am and again at 5.00pm with 1 person managing milking in the morning and normally two for the afternoon milking.

Pat's reasons for choosing Dairymaster were that he had often heard about the reliability of the equipment and the fantastic service that Dairymaster gave, he was also very impressed with the care and tidiness of how the equipment is fitted. On the equipment side of it, one of the main features that interested Pat was the Dairymaster Swing over arms as he advises that it makes the pit so much clearer and is a much nicer working environment with them installed.

Pat went with mangers in his parlour and he also decided to go for Automatic Feeders as Pat comments "it saves a lot of labour what with drawing bags, I am also able to buy the feed cheaper now and it is a much more efficient and time saving system than the manual method."

The average yield of Pat's cows is 1,000 gallons which gives him a total annual output of 109,000 litres of milk. This Pat can see increasing through additional cows to the herd. The diet of cows on the farm is made up of grass silage & concentrates. Pat's herd is spring calving and he rears all his calves.

Pat comments "Dairymaster were and are a pleasure to deal with in every aspect, from the planning stage to now there is always someone at the end of the phone whenever I need it."
